Work in Progress – a portrait series of ‘familiar faces’

A few weeks ago I began to work with a number of new models following a request for volunteers to sit for a series of portraits ‘familiar faces’. Many volunteers came forward from a group of friends, students and work colleagues. Several months of work now lay ahead of me.  My aim is to make portraits of people that I have known for many years, faces that I am very familiar with yet have never been painted.

This group of portraits will all be on the same proportion canvas of the same size, 12×16 inches. Each sitting is three hours in length and I have now begun work on three of the portraits. The following two paintings are at a similar stage following four sittings on each.

‘Susan’ (work in progress) oil on linen
