Summer Courses 2016

As a new year begins you may now be starting to look ahead for painting opportunities next summer and I would like to let you know of courses and workshops that I will be teaching during 2016.

The New School of Art

This new one day course focuses on painting still life and will look at the fundamentals of creating an expressive and eloquent painting.

Through looking at the still life paintings of Giorgio Morandi, Euan Uglow, Craigie Aitchison and William Nicholson we will examine how the relationship of objects in space can produce a harmonious and poetic composition.
We will look at all aspects of making a still-life; from setting up to colour-mixing, and how tone and colour temperature can be used to describe structure, shape and form.

Arte Umbria

I will be returning to Umbria for a week of printmaking and oil painting, which will include life painting and portraiture beginning 7 September 2016.

Throughout the week at Arte Umbria you will have the opportunity to study the wonderfully expressive medium of drypoint etching; drawing on and printing from a metal plate without using acid. The inspirational setting of Arte Umbria will provide our subject matter for drawing and printing- it may be a view from the house or the olive trees in the garden, a still life arrangement or you may choose to work from the figure or portrait. There will be visits during the week and these may provide further inspiration for your work.

Alongside printmaking there will be the opportunity to paint the figure and portrait using oils. Still life, or landscape may be studied if preferred. For 2015 we had a superb male life model who works at the Florence art schools, so life drawing and painting will feature again in 2016.

Course prices start at £985 and includes seven nights accommodation in the beautiful 18th century house, all meals including aperitivi, wine and all refreshments and one evening in a local trattoria, tuition and all materials you need during the week; etching tools and plates, oils, brushes, canvasses etc, transfers from Perugia airport or Fabro-Ficulle railway station (direct from Rome Termini). The price does not include the cost of your travel arrangements to Italy or any insurance.
